SGVBA Meetings
The San Gabriel Valley Bar Association meets on the first Friday of every month (unless otherwise posted), except during July and August.  Check-in time is 12:00 P.M. and the meeting starts at 12:25 P.M.

Meetings take place at Almansor Court, 700 S. Almansor St., Alhambra, CA 91801 (MAP).  Lunch is provided.  Meetings are free for members, and $25 for nonmembers. Nonmember attorneys and guests, please RSVP to Joseph Leon at (626) 458-9949.

Each meeting includes an educational presentation which qualifies for one hour of MCLE credit.

          Ruben N. Sarkisian will spoke about current issues in immigration law.

Don Proudfoot of the Proudfoot & Quach law firm spoke about Anti-SLAPP lawsuits (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation).


June 5, 2009

Patrick A. Fraioli, Esq. from the Ervin Cohen & Jessup firm spoke on the topic of receiverships.  Mr. Jessup’s experience includes serving as the receiver for MGA Entertainment Inc., maker of the Bratz line of toys, following its loss in court to Mattel.  Mr. Fraioli is currently tasked with preserving and maximizing the value of MGA’s assets.


May 1, 2009 (Law Day)

Charles S. Doskow, Dean Emeritus and Professor of Law at the University of La Verne College of Law, spoke on the topic of "Law Day and the Rule of Law."


April 3, 2009

Louise Nixon of the Nixon law firm in Pasadena presented on the topic of “ERISA & Pension Division: Practice Tips On How To Protect Your Clients’ Rights and Avoid Pitfalls,” which included a discussion of pension division language for Judgments of Dissolution and other important issues surrounding QDROs.

Frank Chen of Wasserman, Comden & Casselman, together with representatives from Yours Truly Accessibility Corporation, spoke about advising clients regarding Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accessibility Lawsuits.

Dr. Yusik from the Lawyer Assistance Program will be speaking on the topic of how to cope with the stress of practicing law.

The Honorable Mary T. House, Judge, Superior Court of California, gave an inspiring talk on the practice of law, including advice for becoming a better attorney.

Allan Herzlich and Jerome Blum of Herzlich & Blum, LLP spoke on the topic of "Issues in Attorney Fee Agreements - Collecting Fees from Recalcitrant Clients."

Thomas T. Chan, Esq. spoke on the subject of  "What a General Practitioner Must Know about Intellectual Property Law."

The Honorable Margaret S. Henry, Supervising Judge, Children's Court gave a presentation to the SGVBA entitled "Liberty Under Law: Empowering Youth, Ensuring Democracy."  She provided insightful comments on the foster care system in southern California.


April 6, 2007
